Merit Scholarship

Aberdeen Business School offers a number of merit scholarships to our outstanding students. The scholarship is available to

• international students who will study the course by full time and distance learning and pay for the fees at the international rate; or
• UK or EU students who study the course by full time and the fees are set in excess of 6,000 GBP; or
• UK or EU students who will study the course by distance learning.

Admissions requirements
Applicants will normally hold a first degree, at honours level at a top class banding (either a first class or second class upper or equivalent) and have at least one year’s professional experience in the energy industry or a related sector.

All international students, for whom English is not their first language, must provide evidence of linguistic ability, by gaining either IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent in TOEFL prior to receiving an unconditional offer of a place on the course.

MSc in Energy Management


MSc Energy Management course is designed to meet the needs of the upstream oil and gas management and the renewable energy management markets.

This Masters course has been developed to build on the links Robert Gordon University has with the energy industry and has received accreditation from the Energy Institute at the level of Chartered Energy Manager.

This course is particularly suitable for:

• Technical specialists with no management experience who need a management education specific to their industry;
• Technical specialists from other industries with transferable skills that can be applied to the energy industry wishing to change career in the direction of energy;
• Those from the energy industry, but without the work experience required to study the MBA or Oil and Gas Management, who want to study a focused energy management degree;
• Those who have completed a general MBA and wish to gain an energy education through CPD.

On this course students gain experience of key decision-making in a range of business functions. This knowledge can then be applied at a strategic level in the Strategic Management or the Energy Industry modules.

Specialist energy management modules provide the theory, policy and practice aspects of the energy industry. There is also the opportunity to study optional subject areas such as Health, Safety and Risk in an Organisational Context and Oil and Gas Contract Law. The project modules allow students to further synthesise and apply specialist knowledge to professional practice.

Our supported Online learning mode of delivery allows you to study online from any location and is designed to fit in around your work commitments. You will be taught and supported by experienced industry professionals who will recreate the same challenging interactive format of the on-campus courses for those studying at a distance.

Department of Business & Management

The Business Management department is one of the largest in the school and .among the areas of interest .are Business Strategy, E-Business, Entrepreneurship and Operations Management. The Business Strategy group is the biggest numerically with 50% of the academic staff being located here. The group teaches a number of strategic management modules throughout the University and to a number of corporate clients. The areas of speciality within the group are Corporate Social Responsibility, Business Ethics, Business Strategy, Psychological Contracts and Environmental Management and Policy. The Charles P. Skene Centre for Entrepreneurship is an expanding area of expertise within Aberdeen Business School with a particular interest in small business enterprise. One of their remits is to provide entrepreneurial education to as wide a group of students as possible within the University.
