Online Public Health MPH

Online Masters in Public Health

Outdated health policy risks the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities. University of Glasgow understands the importance of this and has been teaching public health education since 1893. Over this time, we have been able to develop a programme that puts an emphasis on original research, psychosocial and international approaches to public health and, with our close ties to the NHS, we help develop the key skills needed for a successful career in public health.

Transform the future of public health

This programme aims to promote health, prevent disease, reduce inequalities in health, and prolong life. The University of Glasgow places great pride and importance in our original research. It’s because of this that our faculty have been at the forefront of numerous recent public health interventions, including Scotland’s smoking ban.

Our overarching aim is to develop a unique pool of experts to lead public health, no matter if you are already a health professional looking for career advancement, or if you are looking to transition into this area.

Our programme is multidisciplinary in focus, so regardless if you specialise in medicine or pharmecuitcals, you will benefit from studying alongside students from other courses and our close links to the NHS, giving you access to some of the country's leading authorities in public health and be able to follow in their footsteps.

100% online, interactive learning

Studying online means you don’t have to sacrifice your current career in order to pursue a new one. With industry-lead teaching and cutting-edge research, you’ll be able to study the entire programme without having to set foot on campus.

You would be able to access our interactive resources from anywhere and at any time; this includes live seminars, audio, video, discussion areas, and more - whatever helps you achieve their career goals. Once you’ve started the programme, we won’t leave you to it. We’ll always be on hand to help you, all the way through to graduation.

Ranked 1st in the Russell Group for teaching (NSS 2018), the University of Glasgow offer a flexible programme that can be tailored to meet your specific requirements. Whether you want to study an MSc, a PgDip or a PgCert, or choose your duration of study between 1 and 6 years; at the University of Glasgow you can further your ambitions without compromising your current commitments.

Are you more interested in the impact of public health policy on specific populations? The following specialist programmes may better support your career aspirations.

Online Population Health Sciences MSc

As the only online programme of its kind in the UK, it offers a unique opportunity to understand how physical and social environment, individual behaviour, distribution of resources, investment and genetics impact on health status and inequalities in populations over time.

The online Population Health Sciences programme offers students all the benefits of the core public health programme, but with emphasis on statistical, rather than clinically focused, content.

Through a broader public health focus, this programme explores the multiple determinants of health outcomes and their impact on the population. With patient data linking now more prevalent, this line of research is key to the future of healthcare.

In addition to core courses, such as advanced statistics and epidemiology, the programme offers optional courses on subjects including linked data analysis, health economics, communicable diseases and health promotion.

Instead of being assessed through a research dissertation, as per the Online Public Health programme, you will be taught through data analysis, reports, posters, presentations and journal articles. Learning in this way will equip you with the practical skills that are integral to careers in public health, health services, health policy or academia.

Our online programme allows you to choose a route of study to match your interests or career goals. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the programme, you’ll benefit from sharing these interests and unique experiences with students from other healthcare programmes.

Online Primary Health Care MSc

Healthcare across the world faces major challenges from the increasing demands of ageing populations and the rise in non-communicable diseases. If a good primary healthcare system is in place, it is able to meet 80–90% of a patient’s health needs over the course of their life. This presents a huge opportunity for those in this field to make a difference to wider populations.

Enhance primary care around the world

By elevating primary care concepts, this 100% online programme gives professionals looking to advance their career the ability to propose, develop and implement sustainable strategies within a healthcare system – all to help address rising rates of chronic illness and complex care needs globally.

The MSc Primary Care will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to make a difference to primary healthcare in the 21st century.
